Mission Impossible

On the Christmas list to buy, is the Mission Impossible, 6 disc DVD Collection. Strangely, I don't have any of the films in the series...maybe I need to look properly! By shopping around it should be possible to get individual films, say for £1.00. The first of those films was released in 1996...but it could be a lot of aggravation?

Tuesday 4 December 2018

Shakatak

On my list to buy, is the 1984 Shakatak album Down on the Street...their most successful album both here and in the US. As someone said to me, 'you do like different musical styles'. However, I don't tend to think about that ( if at all). I just like all kinds of music. I knew of the album many years ago and I think I was in Croydon and saw it and that set me thinking...

Tuesday 27 November 2018

The Good Fight

The Good Fight is a sequel (well it has many of the cast), to the very successful, The Good Wife, which I really enjoyed. There have been two series so far and I would like to get the first (box set) for Christmas. It is currently half price, at £14.99. Another one to add to my collection. I've been collecting films and CD's for quite a long time now and its always, (film and music), been something I enjoy and I guess I'll continue to do so.

Tuesday 20 November 2018

Aquaman

Aquaman is out in the cinema on 14 December. I'm not familiar with the character, (it's out of the DC catalogue). It seems interesting enough from the trailers Iv'e seen.

On my ongoing to buy list for Christmas is Ant Man and the Wasp...look enjoyed it.

Tuesday 13 November 2018

Lady Gaga

One of my favourite artists is Lady Gaga, though I don't have any of her albums. However, it is her performance in the film, A Star is Born, that has really impressed me (and it seems, many other people). As a result, I want to get the DVD of that film when it is released.

I'm going to Camden market on Thursday to buy the Glenn Miller compilation that I'm interested in. It should be about £5-00 from the shop I've found!

Tuesday 6 November 2018

Law and Order SVU

The Law and Order: Special Victims Unit box set, Season 8, is on my list of 'to get DVD's for Christmas'. Considering that the series was first shown on TV around 2006-2007and has been available shortly after that, it does seem that it has taken me a long time to get this far...there have been 20 series!

Another film on the list is Shrek The Third...first released in 2007.

Tuesday 30 October 2018

Smallfoot...

Smallfoot has been in the cinema for a short time. The story doesn't seem that imaginative, but despite that, it is an amusing idea. It's also of course an opportunity for some established actors to voice over the characters. Anyway, because it appeals to me, I think it's going on my DVD's to get list.

Tuesday 16 October 2018

Film and music.

I'm looking for possible music CD's for Christmas. Two of my favourite artists are    Sly Fox and Cock Robin-maybe not names familiar to too many people? I do like a lot of their music.

A film I'm looking forward to is Aquaman, the DC Comic character. The trailer looks impressive, but I wonder how long the DC and Marvel Franchises can keep churning these character films out. Well as long as people want to see them and they make money...I suppose.

Tuesday 9 October 2018

Jeff Bridgeges is one of...

Jeff Bridges is one of my favourite actors. I know he is in something that is coming out/ or is already out, but I cant remember and the computer has just crashed...hang on, no...it's called Bad Times at the El Royale. I don't know whether it's worth seeing or not, but anyway he has been in so many memorable films. However, having briefly looked at some reviews, it looks very promising. It might be another film that I will eventually buy on DVD.

Tuesday 2 October 2018

Queen

I'm still regularly looking at what films are coming out in the cinema. Bohemian Rhapsody is a        forthcoming film about the band Queen. I really like a lot of their music and suppose the film will have a great soundtrack. It seems surprising its taken this long to adapt a biographical story of the band to film. Obviously, there is the theatrical adaption of their music, We Will Rock You, built around some fictional story, but nothing to do with the band. It's possible I will go to the cinema to see it, otherwise its on my list of films to buy!

Tuesday 11 September 2018

BlacKkKlansman...

A film which someone has recommended to me, is BlacKkKlansman and I wouldn't have been aware of it otherwise. It's a comedy drama based on a true story, though apparently more dramatic than  the book it is based upon. It's is film I will definitely buy, though I am not familiar with the films of Spike Lee.

Tuesday 4 September 2018

Michael Caine

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing King of Thieves at some stage. Not only has it got Michael Caine, but it also has an impressive cast of older British actors. I suppose it will be the typical soft hearted villians up to no good formula. Michel Caine is one of my favourite actors and I like many of those films of the 1960's which a number of the cast would have been in. Regardless of the storyline, it really is the actors that I am most interested in seeing.

Tuesday 28 August 2018

Glen Miller

Glen Miller is one of my favourite musical artists and I have a couple of CD's at home. Some are critical of the popular formula that he 'devised' and with which he had so much (commercial) success. However, his music can have a very moving and uplifting effect and I do not think that you can listen to it and not be moved in some way...

Tuesday 21 August 2018

Skyscraper...

I do like Dwayne Johnson. He's an impressive action hero and I can't think of anybody else who is filling that gap, ie. big, expensive, B movie Action Films, like Skyscraper. The film is a shameless rip-off of Die Hard, in many respects. However, a lack of imagination, does not necessarily mean much, as it has been commercially very successful-people go and watch it anyway. There are some great, gut wrenching stunts. If heights make you nervous. Ahhhhhieee!

Tuesday 14 August 2018

Rampage...again!

I'm looking at film releases in August and September and struggling to find much of interest. Thinking of Rampage...generally, if I don't go and see a film in the cinemaI will buy it on DVD later, but only if it meets my list of things, ie. is it exciting, has a likeable heroic character, a big cuddly monster...hmmm, etc. I do like those monster movies, for example, just a few...Jurassic Park, King Kong, the Alien films.

Tuesday 7 August 2018

Ant Man

I would like to see Ant Man and the Wasp, though I'm not familiar with the Ant Man character from the Marvel Comic Books. In fact, I don't remember hearing of him...a bit obscure in comparison to the more established characters perhaps. Ant Man in 2015 had proved to be quite/ very successful and it had added a few dramatic twists and a good degree of humour to the genre. Not a surprise then that some sort of sequel would follow.

Tuesday 31 July 2018

Book Club...again

I'm going to get the Book Club on DVD when it comes out, possibly August. I know I have mentioned it before and that it is based loosely on Fifty Shades of Grey, which I haven't read and doubt that I will ever read it. I suppose watching the DVD covers all the possibilities available. It does of course have a very good female cast.

Tuesday 24 July 2018

Jane McDonald

There are lot of things I like about Jane McDonald, particularly her Yorkshire accent (she's from Wakefield). She has an endearing personality and I really like her voice. I suppose her musical style is very 'middle ofthe road', but there is something quite soothing and about her voice (vocal range) and her choice of song often allows her to express those qualities...

Tuesday 17 July 2018

Mamma Mia...

Next week, Mamma Mia: Here we go again, will be out. I really would like to see this...probably because I do like musicals; or at least different music styles ('genres'); and I've always liked many of the songs of Abba. The first film was so successful, that there was always going to be a sequel and there was always going to be that massive 'feel good' factor to tap into. Of course it's not to every one's taste...

Tuesday 3 July 2018

Mission Impossible

My film of the week is Mission Impossible: Fallout, though it doesn't come out in the cinema until 28 July. I'm really excited about the prospect of seeing this sixth instalment in the series. They  obviously can't kill off the established cast...yet, maybe they need to ?

Tuesday 19 June 2018

The Phantom Thread

Just to say I didn't get to the shops, but I will this Friday to get The Phantom Thread: £12.99, though that seems expensive. Maybe I should wait? However, this Paul Thomas Anderson directed film, really does seem worth seeing. Other films of his include, Boogie Nights, There Will be Blood, The Master. Though highly regarded, he is not the most commercially successful of directors, but....

Oh yes...Red Sparrow is available, on DVD,        on 8-7-2018!

Tuesday 12 June 2018

Out next week

I'm going to get The Black Panther on DVD on Friday. Having heard so many good things about the film, I am really excited about the opportunity to see it for the first time.

Out in the cinema next week is oceans 8, which is a twist on the original trilogy, though whether there really is another story that needs to be told, I don't know...Still it has an impressive female cast.

Tuesday 5 June 2018

book club

In the cinema at the moment is the Book Club. It looks interesting, but I have very little interest in the books that it is based upon. I'm not sure what  I find so interesting... and agree that it is a shameless piece of promotion for EL James, but I might get it on DVD. Maybe I should see the Shade films...hmm. On reflection it seems like a lot of nonsense aimed at a particular age group. Perhaps its just a cynical piece of marketing after all...

Tuesday 29 May 2018

star wars

I'm quite excited by the new Star Wars spin-off,  'Solo, A Star War's Story'. It really looks like director Ron Howard completely understands the subject material and from what I have read, has put together a terrific, inventive and inspiring story. I think anyone who has followed the Star Wars saga will be both impressed and moved by this film.

Tuesday 22 May 2018

liam neeson

Another film I would like to see, but on DVD, is Non Stop 2, The Commuter, where the main role is played by Liam Neeson. It's a fairly familiar character and though this is all very familiar, as I have said this before, he gets the opportunity to thump anyone that he cannot reason with...and this happens often and he is very good at doing that.

Tuesday 15 May 2018

sarah vaughan

I would like to get a best of CD, of the songs of (Jazz) singer Sarah Vaughan. She has such a beautiful voice, with an amazing vocal range, which she retained throughout her career. The 'Absolutely Essential Collection', looks like pretty remarkable value: 3 CD's, 60 tracks for £5.99, from...well it's the best value that I've seen.

Tuesday 8 May 2018

JurassicWorld: Fallen Kingdom

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom comes out in June. I know that I've mentioned it before, but for me, I still find the main theme (dinosaurs!), a continuing attraction. Having just seen a couple of trailers, it looks quite exciting and even the story line looks promising. It certainly is a little more interesting than I first thought.

Tuesday 1 May 2018

my dvds

I'm looking forward to getting the Black Panther, when it is available on DVD...May/June? Also, to the release in the cinema of Mission Impossible: Fallout. Perhaps I don't buy DVD's as often as it seems. I am also likely to wait until it has gone down in price, so I could be willing to wait for some time.

Tuesday 24 April 2018

Black Panther

I have mentioned the Black Panther before, but I did not get to the cinema to see it. I'm now waiting for it to be available on DVD. There is a certain sense of excitement in waiting to watch it at home-though I know it's not the same experience as seeing it in the cinema.

I like to organise all  my DVD's so that I can find them easily. On Friday I'll be getting Star Wars: The Last Jedi, to add to my collection

Tuesday 17 April 2018

jurassic world

They are back again, that is the dinosaurs not the aging cast in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. As said before, the first film had a great idea and the sequels have just repeated the idea of the first, without any decent stories. I don't know how the Park/World stayed open for so long...I guess we all love the dinosaurs. Still, I will watch it eventually on DVD.

Tuesday 10 April 2018

The Last Jedi

On Friday I'm going to go and buy the Last Jedi on DVD (from Morrisons), for £10.00. I didn't see it in the cinema, so it's a good investment, as I usually watch my films more than twice. That's got be value for money! I have 4 films in the series: the 3 original ones and The Force Awakens. I really like the Star Wars story and of course want to see how it continues with both old and new characters.

Tuesday 3 April 2018

Rampae is Dwayne

Rampage is in the cinema now. Dwayne Johnson is the star, well apart from the huge genetically altered animals. It's as well Dwayne hasn't been altered himself, because then it would be no contest. I would like to go and see it in the cinema with friends, but then we have to agree to see that  particular film...otherwise, I will only get to see it  on DVD when it is released. That could be difficult...

Tuesday 27 March 2018

Larry Grayson

I've plucked a name out of the air: Larry Grayson. He was a British comedian and TV presenter, best known in the 1970's and 1980's, particlarly for presenting The Generation Game. His comedy was marked by 'high camp and English Music  Hall humour'. After The Generation Game, which he left in 1982, he more or less went into (semi) retirement.  I really liked his sense of humour-he made me laugh!

Thanks to Wiki.

Tuesday 13 March 2018

and of course he was...

I really liked Bruce Forsyth. I saw the tribute to him on Sunday, which I particularly enjoyed. He was a long standing entertainer.I remember many of the shows he presented over the years...probably, there isn't anyone who compares with him in terms of his ability to engage an audience and of course he was a very versatile entertainer...

Tuesday 6 March 2018

Avengers

Continuing with new films releases, Avengers Infinity Wars, the sequel to 20l2's The Avengers and 2015's The Age of Ultron. From what little I've read The Avengers will be joining forces with The Guardians of the Galaxy. I haven't read the original Marvel Comics, on which the film is based, but the whole Universe is threatened with destruction by Thanos, who is looking for the Infinity Stones...

Tuesday 27 February 2018

Red Sparrow

Continuing with recent and new releases in the cinema. Coming soon...Red Sparrow, with Jennifer Lawrence. She is a particularly good actress and always brings a lot to her characters. The film has had a few dodgy reviews, but it's not a surprise that the Russian Intelligence Services are back in the cinema: what naughty things have they been up to? Unfortunately, I haven't been to the cinema this year to see anything...so far.

Tuesday 20 February 2018

My music...

I have two old music tapes, that is: Shakatak, Day by Day and James Last, My Favourite Love Songs (1983). I would like to replace both of them with CD's. However, on Amazon , the James Last audio CD is £40.00...it must be a collectors item?

I want to get Thor: Ragnarok on DVD and add it to my collection. It looks very impressive, exciting and original...

Tuesday 13 February 2018

If it makes money

I'm looking forward to film releases in the next few months. It's difficult to work out what is worth seeing. There are a number of remakes (like Tomb Raider). However, I like the look of Rampage. I suppose the idea has been done before: that is, genetically altering an animal and it becoming a monster version of itself...do we never learn?

Tuesday 6 February 2018

Black Panther

The Black Panther looks really interesting, but need to get some information abut the story, because I don't know anything about it...Still if you want to make it as attractive as possible, that's what the trailer is for-guess it succeeds in doing that at least. I would like to go to the cinema and see it. A different twist to annother Marvel story character. If I like it, then I'll add it to my DVD collection (later).

Tuesday 30 January 2018

Harrison Ford

I'm excited that there is going to be a fifth Indiana Jones film: The Reborn Empire. Maybe after Raiders of the  Lost Ark, the stories have been weaker, but I do like the trailer I've seen. Think the film is not intended to be released until summer 2019.

Tuesday 23 January 2018

liam Neeson

I want to see the film, The Commuter, with Liam Neeson. H'es playing a completely different character to previous roles (well sort of). However, still expecting it to be an exciting action film, where he get's to thump a lot of people-not that that is necessarily a good thing, but talking to them doesn't seem to get the results he is looking for and most don't seem very reasonable anyway, so...

Tuesday 9 January 2018

Eurovision 2018

The Final of the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest takes place on 12 May, in Portugal. It's one of my favourite musical events of the year.
The choice of the UK entry will be decided on February 7th in Brighton. It will be broadcast on BBC2 live and then a vote by telephone will determine the winner.

2018 films

I'm looking forward to the latest Mission Impossible 6 film, released in July this year. I've seen all of the others on DVD, one or two in the cinema. I've really enjoyed the whole series of films.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, is released in 2018. Some how they have managed to keep the same sort of story going, with very little change, but still make it watchable. The first film was fantastic. Maybe I, (people), just want to keep on watching that?

Tuesday 2 January 2018

my xmas

so I  had xmas lunch at home with mum and dad. the presents I got were a strictly come dancing 2017 dvd , amazing spider-man (2012) and the Beverly hill cop: triple feature.
